This custom poem was written for a grieving wife whose beloved husband, a firefighter, passed away suddenly on New Year’s Eve while on duty. His heart stopped at the fire, leaving family and friends in shock and sorrow. He was not only a hero to the community but also a dear friend to everyone that knew him.

This wife and husband shared a beautiful love story. They met when he brought the fire truck to her elementary school, where she teaches, delighting her students. Captivated by her, he later searched for her name, found her, and sent her an email asking her on a date. After three years of dating, they married and celebrated one year of marriage before tragedy struck.

Her husband was taken far too soon, and she is facing unimaginable grief. She shared with me that some days, all she wants is to put on his clothes and hold them close—wishing she could have him back in her arms.

I wrote this poem especially for her, to help her through the grieving process and to help her put her pain into the words that she could not find.
